Box jumps & stitches = “Wound-sy”

I’ve gone 25 years with no broken bones, no stitches and very few hospital visits. I’ve been lucky (in more ways than one.)

Last night, while I was getting ready for the WOD at CrossFit Medellin I thought it would be a great idea to try the “boy” box jumps. The boys had to clear 30″ box jumps while the girls had to clear 24″ (I’ve been used to using a 20″ box.) What can I say, sometimes I feel like super woman, especially in my new jeans! I practiced a few times on the 24″ box and though, pfttt, what’s another 6 inches. I looked at my new-found nemesis for a few minutes before I worked up the courage to launch myself in the air……. yaaaaa, didn’t do so well. I ended up failing miserably while both of my shins came down on the edge of the box. Yes, I had a HUGE wee gauge in my left leg which looked rather disgusting. To make a long story short, I ended up at the hospital thanks to my amazing friends at CrossFit and had to get 8 stitches. Mat met me there and I now have the nickname “Wound-sy.”

Take a peak — (but not if you have a weak stomach!)

Some of my dear family and friends may remember my little hammock incident last year — now that was really “wound-sy” worthy. Take note this was only 2 months before Mat popped the question – I still had a black eye in our engagement photo. Definitely a keeper.

Fingers crossed that is it in the wound-sy department — at least until after I walk down the aisle, pleeeeease!

Oh – did I mention I can’t workout for TWO WEEKS!!!!!!! Not even swimming, walking, weights — nada. Nothing that will get my heart rate up in fear of a blood clot forming.

On a happier note, I will be home (Toronto) one month today and have my second dress fitting the following day. Then it is off to Beaufort, SC for a little girl time and some R&R. To say I am EXCITED is an understatment! 😀

Happy Friday everyone!

  1. Hi Nick! Without a doubt — taking two weeks off. What a BUMMER! The first question out of my mouth was “When can I workout next?” I think the doctor thought I was crazy….. 🙂
